The City of Charleroi has announced significant changes to its Population counters, effective October 5, 2026. These adjustments aim to provide a more efficient, modern service tailored to citizens' needs.
New hours include later closing times, at 6:00 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. The Marcinelle counter will remain open on Saturday mornings from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM. To reduce waiting times, some counters will close for 1.5 to 2 days per week, allowing staff to reinforce open counters and better match staffing levels to demand.
Three key innovations are being introduced to simplify procedures: express counters in each office for available documents, the option to make appointments (non-mandatory) at the Marchienne-au-Pont and Gosselies counters (at 071/86.89.99), and cheaper online procedures via the E-counter, offering a 50% discount compared to in-person services.
Citizens are reminded that they can visit any Population counter, regardless of their place of residence.
The City of Charleroi's E-counter allows for the online ordering of various administrative documents (residence certificates, household composition, criminal record extracts, etc.), accessible 24/7 with real-time tracking and secure online payment.
