A collaboration between photographer Marin Driguez and Marcela Lobo Bustamante, spiritual care referent at the Grand Hôpital de Charleroi, has led to the project « Spiritual care and the humanization of care ». Supported by the institution's management, this initiative aims to restore meaning to healthcare work and support caregivers' commitment amidst fatigue and complex situations.
The project offers a visual sociology approach that places relationship, presence, and attention to others at the heart of care practices. The hospital is depicted as a place of passage and encounters, a micro-society where patients, caregivers, and various staff members cross paths daily. Marin Driguez's photography seeks to reveal what remains human in care practices, beyond institutional constraints and medical demands.
Following a similar initiative in several Brussels hospitals that resulted in the book Prendre soin (Gallimard, 2025), Marin Driguez spent six months exploring the departments of the Grand Hôpital de Charleroi. His work encourages slowing down and rediscovering the beauty of human gestures and attentions, bringing to the surface the depth of the relationship between caregiver and patient.
Marin Driguez, a French photographer born in 1999, lives and works between Brussels and Paris. He joined Agence VU' in 2022 and develops a documentary approach focused on long-term projects. His project on Belgian hospitals, Prendre soin, is the subject of an exhibition and a book published by Gallimard in 2025. He also collaborates with various international media outlets.
The exhibition, which opened on October 3rd at 6:30 PM, runs until January 24th, 2027. The curatorship and scenography are by Pierre Liebaert and Massao Mascaro, in collaboration with the Grand Hôpital de Charleroi and supported by the French Embassy in Belgium and the Institut français.
