A network proposal is currently available online on an interactive map, allowing everyone to react and complete existing routes. This consultation aims to gather citizens' experiences to identify problem areas, absurd detours, or necessary improvements to make daily commutes safer and more feasible by bike.
This network is designed for daily utility trips (work, school, shopping) rather than leisure rides. The goal is to increase the share of cycling from 1% to 5% of daily trips by 2030, reducing car usage from 83% to 60%. It aims to identify major cycling routes to be prioritized for development by 2040, building on existing infrastructure like the RAVeL and municipal networks.
The network consists of cycle highways, high-service links separated from car traffic, and functional supra-local cycling connections linking town centers, train stations, and business areas. Local access routes within municipalities remain at each commune's discretion.
The study, conducted by the Service public de Wallonie Mobilité et Infrastructures with the Transamo engineering firm since January 2026, has already resulted in an intention scheme and concrete routes following discussions with the 23 municipalities and field workshops. The current version is submitted for public review.
Contributions will feed into the next version of the network, to be reviewed in early 2027. Each proposal will be analyzed for technical and financial feasibility, and a report will detail their treatment.
The consultation is accessible online until November 30, 2026, at https://wapi-consultation.cyclable.wallonie.be. It takes only five minutes, requires no account creation, and allows direct contributions on the map.
