The renovation of Hornu's center, which began in March 2025, is proceeding according to the schedule set by the Commune of Boussu and the company Colas.

Pedestrian traffic on the sidewalks of Rue Grande will be restored by the end of November. The reopening of the intersection between Rue Grande and Rue Clarisse is planned for the year-end holidays, subject to favorable weather conditions and technical constraints. Some finishing work will continue into early 2027, particularly paving on the sidewalks and roads near the Saint-Martin church.
This major construction project, one of Colas's largest in Wallonia, involves a deep renovation of public spaces and infrastructure, including sewage, water, gas, and electrical networks, fiber optics, public lighting, roads, sidewalks, and surface amenities. It aims to improve the living environment for residents, enhance public spaces, and increase accessibility in the center of Hornu.
Organized in three phases, the project started in March 2025. Phase one (March 2025-March 2026) covered the Quatre Pavés sector, Rue Grande up to the town hall, Rue des Postes, and Rue Defuisseaux. The current phase encompasses Rue Grande from the town hall to the Rue Clarisse intersection, the forecourt of Saint-Martin church, and the area opposite the old presbytery. Phase three will focus on developing the park and parking area near the town hall.
