The Province of Hainaut hosted the first Hainaut wine competition on Monday, October 12th, recognizing the best local productions.

The Centre d’Excellence des Métiers de l’Hôtellerie in Saint-Ghislain was the venue for the inaugural Hainaut wine competition, an initiative by Hainaut Développement aimed at promoting wines produced within the province. The goal is to increase awareness of these local wines and support the development of a growing regional wine sector.
The competition assessed the flavor, aroma, and appearance of the wines and was open to winemakers and vineyards established in the province of Hainaut. Wines had to be produced from grapes grown in Hainaut or be 'à façon' (custom-made) wines adhering to strict local production criteria.
A jury of 12 professionals, including wine sector specialists and buyers, blind-tasted the 21 competing wines: 4 dry reds, 12 dry whites, and 5 white brut sparkling wines. The top three in each category received distinctions.

These awards recognize the work accomplished by the producers and offer additional visibility for their wines to both professionals and the general public.

The winners will receive a diploma, and the first-place recipients in each category will also be awarded a trophy. They will also benefit from a space at an event organized by Hainaut Développement to present their wines directly to the public. Communication efforts will also be made to highlight the competition's results.
