The Pecq Children's Municipal Council has welcomed five new members, all from the 5th and 6th primary grades of the entity's schools. The oath-taking ceremony took place on September 29th, at the beginning of the adult municipal council meeting.
The newly elected counselors are: Elena Chorfi and Jade Vandevende (communal school of Warcoing), Gauthier Vanhaecke (communal school of Obigies), Célia Scherpereel (Saint-Martin free school of Pecq), and Nohelly Delcroix (Sainte-Aldegonde free school of Hérinnes).
They join four existing councilors for this school year: Jade Piron (communal school of Pecq), Adil Lessire (communal school of Obigies), Estelle Billet (Saint-Martin free school of Pecq), and Jules Vandenhende (Sainte-Aldegonde free school of Hérinnes).
Under the guidance of Justine Cara from the Youth Service, the Children's Municipal Council will meet ten times during the school year. Alderwoman Audrey Masure, responsible for Social Cohesion, emphasized their democratic role: 'During this year, you will have an important role: giving your opinion but also listening to your classmates, gathering their ideas, and thinking about the children you represent. In the children's municipal council, you will learn to make choices together and sometimes also to find compromises.'
A review of past projects, including the creation of flower beds and participation in community events like the Christmas market, was also presented. For the 2026-2027 school year, the young counselors will have a budget of 1,500 euros to implement their new initiatives.
