This Wednesday, October 21st, the Walloon Minister of Environment, Yves Coppieters, chose the site of the Observatoire de la Santé in Havré for his press conference dedicated to the Action Plan for Healthy and Sustainable Food. This meeting highlighted Territorial Food Projects (PAT), within which the Province of Hainaut plays a crucial role.
A Territorial Food Project (PAT) is a collective and concerted initiative at the territorial level, aiming to bring together producers, processors, public partners, associations, economic, academic, social, and health stakeholders to build a concerted food strategy adapted to local realities and aligned with regional priorities. By creating links between all actors from farm to plate, the PAT impacts public health, supports the local economy, promotes food justice, and combats waste. In Wallonia, ten PATs, including that of Cœur de Hainaut, embody this transformation.
The PAT Coeur de Hainaut, led by Hainaut Développement and the Observatoire de la Santé du Hainaut, covers 22 municipalities in the Mons-Borinage and Centre regions. Its vision is to make Cœur du Hainaut a territory of cooperation and experimentation, capable of moving from networking to collective and reproducible solutions.
The Mess de la Régie d’Havré, a concrete illustration of this provincial commitment, received a significant reward just a week ago: its second "radis" (radish) label, following a first obtained in February 2023. This certification confirms its constant efforts towards eco-responsible community catering, demonstrating increased quality standards in local and organic sourcing, sustainable supply chains, health and balance, and environmental considerations.
