On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, 100 children from schools in Monceau-sur-Sambre gathered this Monday, September 21st, at Nelson Mandela Park. The morning focused on promoting values of respect, dialogue, and solidarity among the young participants.
The day began with a visit to the monument dedicated to Peace. The students then laid flowers, accompanied musically by pieces such as 'Ode to Joy' and 'On écrit sur les murs'.
Several creative workshops were offered to allow the children to express their vision of peace and consider how to practice it daily. Origami, interactive quizzes, and the creation of a collective mural were part of these activities.
These fun activities aimed to remind everyone that peace is also built through simple actions: listening to others, respecting differences, resolving disagreements through dialogue, and helping classmates.
The highlight of the morning occurred at 10:50 AM, when the 100 children gathered to form the word 'PEACE'. This symbolic image, captured by a drone, was created in a location named after Nelson Mandela, emphasizing the importance of individual contributions to a more respectful and supportive society.
To commemorate their participation, each child received a Peace medal. This initiative provided the students with a concrete opportunity to experience peace through cooperation, creativity, and dialogue.
