Due to current weather conditions, characterized by dry weather, rising temperatures, and sustained wind, the risk of fire in natural environments is considered high. Consequently, the Governor of Hainaut Province has issued a police order implementing several preventive measures. These provisions are in effect from September 29th to October 1st, 2026, inclusive.
The order strictly prohibits lighting or maintaining open fires in fields, meadows, brushwood, embankments, gardens, and on slag heaps. Fires in forest areas, including those for managing forest spaces or hunting territories, are also forbidden.
Additional preventive measures include bans on smoking in forests, launching sky lanterns, and setting off fireworks. Fireworks are only permitted with prior written authorization from the Mayor, granted after consultation with the Rescue Zone and based on a risk analysis.
However, an exception is made for barbecues, fire pits, and other cooking devices in private gardens and designated areas within forest zones. Their use is restricted to cooking food and only for the strictly necessary duration. They must be placed away from dry vegetation or combustible materials and remain under constant supervision by an adult until all embers and ashes are completely extinguished.
Agricultural, forestry, or gardening work that could produce sparks or heat sources is still permitted, provided that appropriate extinguishing means are readily available. It is also advised not to park machinery or vehicles with hot engines or exhausts on dry vegetation and to monitor the area after work completion to ensure no fires have started.
These regulations apply to the entire territory of the Province of Hainaut until October 1st, 2026 at midnight. They aim to limit behaviors that could cause fires and preserve the safety of people, property, and natural spaces. The Municipality of Jurbise urges everyone to exercise caution and vigilance during this period and to strictly adhere to the measures taken.
