Due to a high risk of fire, a police decree from the Governor of the province of Hainaut came into effect on September 29th, 2026, and will remain in place until October 1st inclusive. This decree aims to prevent any fires in natural areas.
During this period, several prohibitions are in place. It is notably forbidden to light open fires in fields, meadows, brushwood, embankments, gardens, and slag heaps. Lighting fires in forest areas, including for the management of forest spaces or hunting territories, is also prohibited.
It is also forbidden to smoke in forests or to throw burning objects, such as cigarettes, as well as glass fragments in or near natural areas. The use of sky lanterns and the firing of fireworks without authorization are also banned.
Barbecues, braziers, and cooking devices remain authorized, but under specific conditions detailed in the full decree, available online.
The public is urged to respect these measures and to remain vigilant to prevent any fires.
