As every autumn, the SPW Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment organizes the Tree Week around Saint Catherine's Day (November 24th), a period conducive to planting for trees to take root. This initiative aims to promote nature in urban areas and contribute to the preservation of regional biodiversity.
Many Walloon municipalities, including Frameries, participate in this event by distributing free tree and shrub saplings to the public. Funded by the Walloon Region, this distribution is accompanied by activities to promote trees, strengthen the green network, and support the horticultural sector. The hot and dry summer of 2026 highlighted the importance of planting to create cool spots.
In 2026, Tree Week is particularly highlighting birds. Planting a variety of trees and shrubs in one's garden offers essential shelter and food for songbirds in the years to come.
In Frameries, several events are planned. On Saturday, November 21st, from 9 AM to 12 PM, the Frameries market will host a distribution of trees and shrubs (hornbeam, maple, raspberry, viburnum, rowan...), planting advice, an Hygea stand on composting, and the presence of the PNHP (Parc Naturel des Hauts Pays) for advice on building birdhouses. The ADL (Local Development Agency) will also distribute bird food.
Another major event is the conference titled 'The Tree in the City, a Heritage to Preserve', organized by the municipality. It will take place on Tuesday, November 24th at 7 PM at the Cultural Center of Frameries (Rue des Alliés, 41). The conference will be presented by Julien Demoustier, an agronomist and environmental service agent for Hainaut Développement. Registration is mandatory at 065/611.211 or via email at environnement@frameries.be.
