The Municipality of Dour is launching a campaign for the sterilization and identification of cats, mandatory in Wallonia, starting Monday, October 5th, 2026, targeting low-income households.

In response to feline overpopulation, electronic microchip identification and cat sterilization are now mandatory in Wallonia. These measures, essential for animal welfare, also help in easily finding lost pets and preventing unwanted litters.
To encourage these practices, the Municipality of Dour, in partnership with local veterinarians, is implementing financial aid for low-income households. This campaign will begin on Monday, October 5th, 2026.
Beneficiaries will receive financial assistance directly at partner veterinary clinics: €50 for female sterilization and €30 for male castration. These amounts include the implantation and registration of the mandatory microchip.
Interested individuals must visit the municipal Service Secrétariat (Secretariat Service) with proof of household composition and a copy of their tax notice. Household income must not exceed the established thresholds. Full conditions are available from the Communal Secretariat Service.
An enrollment coupon will be provided to applicants who meet the criteria. This aid is limited to one cat per household and will be granted until the available budget is depleted.
For more information, contact the Service Secrétariat at 065/76.18.23. Identifying and sterilizing your cat is a responsible act for your pet, the community, and animal welfare.
