As part of the international campaign Pink October, the Province of Hainaut is mobilizing in the fight against breast cancer. A conference-debate titled "Hainaut Mobilization for Organized Breast Cancer Screening: Local Authorities and Medical Professionals, Key Players in Prevention" will be held.
Although the Mammotest offers free screening for women aged 50 to 69, local participation rates show that too many citizens still miss out on this protective measure. When detected early, this cancer is curable in the vast majority of cases. Pink October provides an opportunity to unite the proximity of local elected officials and the medical trust in general practitioners to overcome organizational, territorial, and socio-economic barriers.
The conference will take place on Monday, October 12, 2026, from 2 PM to 4 PM, in Mons, at Hainaut Développement, located at Boulevard Initialis 22.
The program includes a welcome address from the Provincial Deputy in charge of Health, a presentation of data on breast cancer screening in Hainaut by the Hainaut Health Observatory, an intervention by Michel Candeur, Director of the Coordination and Reference Center for Cancer Screening, followed by a debate with participants.
